Archaeologists In Egypt Have Found 2,600-Year-Old Cheese Inside Clay Vessels

Researchers working at a site in Egypt’s Giza province recently reported a surprising finding.

They found blocks of white cheese dating back 2,600 years in ancient clay pots decorated with Demotic writing, an ancient Egyptian script found on the famous Rosetta Stone.

Discovered during excavations in the Saqqara necropolis, the cheese dates back to the 26th Dynasty of Egypt, between about 664 and 525 BC.
