Inside The Legend Of La Llorona, The Vengeful Spirit Of The Southwest

Patricio Lujan is a young boy in 1930s New Mexico when his normal day with his family in Santa Fe is interrupted by a strange woman in their neighborhood. The family was curiously silent, watching the tall and thin woman dressed in white, without a word, cross the road near her house and head towards a nearby creek.

It wasn’t until they reached the waterfront that the family realized something was really wrong.

As Lujan recalls, “she just seemed to slide like she had no legs” and then disappeared. After reappearing at a distance that an ordinary woman could not travel, she disappeared forever, leaving no footprints.

Lujan was worried, but she knew exactly who the woman was: La Llorona.
